FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the benefits of solar?

Savings on electric bill. We want to help you decrease that electric bill.

An Asset Is Better Than a Liability. Residential rates increased 15% across the nation from January 2009 to January 2019. Paying an electric bill is comparable to a liability that keeps taking more and more money with no return. However, an investment in solar panels will have a positive return.

Property value. Solar panels that you have purchased may increase the value of your home; a new Zillow analysis reveals that solar panels that have been purchased increase the home’s value by 4.1% across the U.S.

How much does it cost to go solar?

If you can pay your electric bill then you can afford to go solar. You can install a solar system with RISE power for $0 down.

How reliable are solar panels?

As with anything else, it will vary based on what you’re willing to pay. In general, solar panels are very durable.

We highly recommend LG solar panels to our customers for many reasons. They have some of the best ratings against hail and they are one of the few brands that can endure hurricane winds. LG solar panels are also very efficient during extremely hot days. (Extreme heat can decrease the efficiency of some solar panels.) LG has been in solar since 1985 and they are a well recognized leader in premium solar panels.

LG solar panels also have a 25 year warranty. If something stops functioning the LG Electronics warranty will pay to have the solar panel replaced and re-installed.

On top of that, RISE power has a 10 year workmanship warranty on all of our installations.

How do solar panels work?

Solar panels work by absorbing solar radiation. Sun rays hit the silicon cell on the solar panel and electrons are set in motion. Those electrons create a flow of electricity. A system of nodes and wiring captures this flow of electricity in the solar panel. The solar panel system will send this direct current (DC) to a solar inverter which converts the direct current into alternating current (AC) which can be used in your home.

What is net metering?

Net metering is a system that electric companies use. After you install solar panels on your roof, some utility companies will actually give you a credit for any electricity that you produce and send back to the grid. You only pay for the electricity that you use beyond what your solar panels can generate.

Will My Roof Accommodate Solar Panels?

Some roofs are better for solar than others. In general, if your roof regularly receives sunlight throughout the day it will work for solar panels but we won’t know for sure until we take a look at it.

What happens to solar during bad weather or hail?

During days that are cloudy or stormy your solar is still working. While its true the panels won’t produce as much power as sunny days, your solar is still producing electricity. We account for those cloudy days based on years of historical weather patterns so you can rest assured the yearly estimated energy for your system will be accurate.

Solar is meant to hold up against various types of weather. Small to medium sized hail typically won’t damage your solar system. If have large to extreme size hail and the solar panels are damaged we will work with your homeowners insurance to get your panels up and running ASAP.

What happens if my regular power goes out?

For grid tied systems if you have a power outage at your home due to the grid going down the solar system will detect this outage and immediately shut down. The main reason for this is to protect anyone potentially working on the downed line.

Once the grid power is back up your system will automatically detect this and turn back on. If you invest in a battery backup system your system would automatically switch to your backup battery power and the circuits you have dedicated to that battery would still have power. Once the grid power comes back on the battery would assume its default operation.

Will I still be on the electric grid after installing solar panels?

After you install solar panels, you will still be connected to the grid. It is possible to go completely off the grid with solar panels and batteries but it’s simply unnecessary for most homeowners. Staying connected to the grid allows you to sell extra electricity back to the utility company. It also allows you to use electricity when you’re solar panels are not producing electricity.

How long will my solar system last?

Solar panels in general are highly durable. RISE power prefers installing LG solar panels which are premium solar panels backed by a 25 year production and manufactures warranty. Because we use premium products it is reasonable to expect your system to work for years beyond the actual warranty period.
